As the only tame sailor in the Stonecutters Island Sergeant's mess Peter was given the job of hosting a very senior Naval Officer, and to escort his guest to the pier at the end of the festivities. The approach to the Mess was through a bit of a building site for the new HKMSC barracks, and the RSM had issued instructions to the workmen to smarten the place up before the guests arrived. Unfortunately for Peter this meant an unsightly hole was covered with cardboard and disguised with a sprinkling of sand. As our guests negotiated the site, there was a muffled shout, and when we looked round, no Peter. Guess who found the only sailor trap? It took ages to pull him out, not a lightweight task!
