In 2004 Pete became the first man ever to serve with the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS, or the Women's Auxillary Balloon Corps as we liked to call it). He originaly only applied for the job as a joke, asking them a question they had never been asked before, "Are you an equal opportunities employer?". He was successful and immediately earned the nickname 'Mrs Doubtfire'. After training he served at the School of Signals in Blandford, Dorset and with the Royal Logistic Corps in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Then, almost 20 years after leaving the Navy, Pete finally found another role which he loved just as much. From 2006 to 2008 he served in Cyprus as a WRVS Welfare Officer providing support to soldiers of frontline units. He was in his element, twice receiving CO's commendations from the Resident Infantry Battalions. He served with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and The Princess of Wales Royal Regiment.
